"Much is graphically displayed on late-night TV! Things like blood and the underworld and panties! If good children aren't in bed by that time, They'll be punished."
Hinata Miyakawa.Hinata is a young woman who appears to be in her early 20's, with long salmon pink hair, which she ties just a bit to the left of her forehead with a rabbit clip; she has dark pink droopy eyes and is a meganekko. Hinata has an compulsive obsession with manga, anime, and doujinshi. Despite her irresponsibility with money, Hinata can be responsible when taking care of Hikage and even knows how to punish her. It has been mentioned that a way Hinata has punished Hikage for doing something wrong is by making her to eat a vegetarian diet for a week, something which the meat-loving Hikage is shown to be afraid of on later occasions.

About Hinata[]

Hinata Miyakawa is a young woman who works at a dōjin shop in Akihabara, called Gamers (which is often brought up by Konata in the anime), presumably not very far from the Cosplay Cafe where Konata Izumi works. However, despite this, she remains poor because of her obession with anime and manga. She and her sister, Hikage Miyakawa, live in a small crowded apartment that itself is cluttered with piles of manga. Hinata makes three appearances in the anime. The first appearance is in the background in episode 12 with her sister. Then she appears in episode 16. When Kagami, Tsukasa, and Miyuki are asked to pick up a comic magazine and a Code Geass dojinshi; she is there to both help them find the items as well as check them out. Hinata's next appearance is in the 24th episode, where she and Hikage showed up at Ryōō High School to attend the culture festival, only to find out they had come the day before the school opened it to the public. In the manga she and her sister are highlighted in three strips in episode 87 (Moe Drill), giving glimpses of the home-lives of both Hinata and her sister.

Etymology[]

  • The name Hinata is written in hiragana (ひなた), which has no special meaning. However, when written in kanji (日向, 陽向 or 向日葵), it could possibly mean:
    • 日向 - "sunny place".
    • 陽向 - "toward the sun".
    • 向日葵 - "sunflower".
  • Hinata's surname Miyakawa means "temple, shrine, palace" (宮) (miya) and "river, stream" (河) (kawa).
